Puppy
Class, Wednesday 7:00-8:00 p.m.
This
class is for puppies with complete inoculations. The class is also open
to older dogs who need socialization, help with shyness and gaining self-confidence.
It is designed to benefit the social development of dogs and enhance bonding
with the handler. The emphasis is on fun, confidence building, basic obedience,
and new experiences for the puppies.
Beginning,
Wednesday 7:00-8:00 p.m.
The
primary goal of this class is to foster bonding and the relationship between
dog and handler while the dog learns basic good manners. The commands
taught include walking on a leash, sit, down, and stand, with stay and
come when called. Specific problems such as digging, jumping, barking,
fear of loud noises, and running away can be addressed. This class focuses
on developing a pet that is welcome in your home and that you are proud
to take out in public. This class is also a start for those who choose
to go on to obedience competition. Classes may be limited in size; register early.
Advanced
Beginning, Wednesday
7:00-8:00 p.m.
This
class is for handlers who have already been through the Beginning class,
or who have had some experience in dog training. Pre-novice exercises
are improved and polished with emphasis on control and precision, working
toward distance, time, and reliability in the Novice exercises.
Novice,
Wednesday 8:00-9:00
p.m.
This class is for teams who have successfully completed the Advanced Beginning
evaluation and are ready to begin off-leash work. Emphasis is placed on
perfecting the dog’s pre-novice work and learning the transition
to off-leash control. This class is primarily for people striving toward
the Companion Dog title with their dogs; however, others who
simply want to enhance their dog’s training are also welcome.
Open/Utility,
Wednesday
8:00-9:00 p.m.
These advanced classes are taught as needed and
require a minimum of three students per class. For teams who have completed
the Companion Dog degree, and who want to work toward competition
for Companion Dog Excellent and Utility Dog titles.
Rally,
Wednesday
7:00-8:00 p.m.
This is a fun class for handlers who want to do something different with
their dogs. It is the newest program offered by the AKC. The signs and
exercises used in Rally are introduced and handlers and their dogs practice
on a course. Handlers are encouraged to talk to, signal, and praise their
dogs throughout the course. This class is for those who have completed
a basic obedience
class, for those who wish
to pursue Rally degrees, and for those who want to have fun with their
dogs.
Ring
Practice, Wednesday
7:30-8:30 p.m.
$5.00 per day payable each time
For teams who are getting ready to enter obedience trials. Instruction
is one-on-one with evaluation of dog and handler errors that should be
corrected. The instructor is knowledgeable about regulations and obedience
judging. All levels are welcome: novice, open, and utility.
Homework
is given in all of our classes, and participants are expected to work
with their dogs each day during the week between classes. A dog will do
well if the handler is diligent in working with him/her at home.
